House Industries x Heath Ceramics House Number Tiles

Posted on February 27, 2012

House Industries, that excellent design firm that we all know and love, has put out a collection of house numbers using two of their best-known typefaces (Eames & Neutraface) in conjunction with Heath Ceramics. They look stellar (seriously, take a good look at those images; the detail is phenomenal) and if I had a house where they wouldn’t be robbed off the front within an hour of being put up I’d buy ’em in a heartbeat. $38 for each tile, $42 for the “salvage teak” sliding thing to holster them.

P.S. I realize that the photos look a little wonky. Heath Ceramics cropped them to fit their website, not mine. This is also a running gallery of images, something new I’m trying out so if you click on the little dots below the image you can quickly fly through them to see all the typeface/ceramic goodness.

A New Voice: Steven Streisguth

Posted on February 15, 2012

Today I officially welcome Steve Streisguth as the second member of The American Classic team. I’ve known Steve for a couple of years now and have recently been using his incredible creative talents for some facet of all of the projects I’ve worked on. He’s done major work for some very big companies, worked with plenty of bands, has his own publishing imprint (Streisguth | Martin), and has most recently done all art-related things for the Natural Process denim show curated by The American Classic here in Philly. He also came up with the ingenious idea of how to mount nearly 40 pairs of jeans onto drywall without the use of studs whatsoever. The dude knows his stuff. If you enjoyed any of the photographs, posters, prints, postcards, vinyl lettering, and anything else related to the Natural Process show, you’ll certainly enjoy the things to come with Steve’s work on The American Classic. Make sure to take a look at his website and some of the other incredibly impressive projects he’s worked on. I’m very excited to have him on board and am looking forward to seeing his posts!

Self Edge x Leather Soul Alden Boots

Posted on February 14, 2012

I spoke with Andrew Chen (who’s got a very nice pair of jeans in the Natural Process show) of Self Edge and 3sixteen last week about a new project Self Edge was working on. It’s a very rad collaboration with Leather Soul and Self Edge to make a very sharp pair of Aldens with a faux toe-cap and an off-white sole. If the photos don’t do it for ya, maybe the $495 price tag to one a 1 in 100 piece of collaborative history (100 made of each of the two colors) will. Check out the very slick pictures and get ready for it’s launch in Los Angeles and Waikiki on February 18th. All photos are courtesy of Andrew Chen, Self Edge, and Leather Soul.

Hammarhead Industries Duomatic

Rad Bikes from Philly

Hammarhead Industries is a custom motorcycle outfit based out of Philly. I’ve talked about them before, a few of my friends work for the company, and they churn out bikes that are nothing short of impressive. Speaking of bikes as in bicycles, Hammarhead has now put out their first one called the Duomatic. Below is a photo of my good friend Maxine riding the sucker into oblivion. My understanding is that they’re very much sold out but maybe you can get in touch and still try and snag one (via Cycle EXIF).

Tenue de Nimes Big John

Natural Indigo Selvedge Denim

I dig the faded indigo, I did the yellow selvedge line, and I dig the fit. Check it. They’re real slick. (pictured with my favorite boots, the Red Wing Iron Ranger).

Blue Highway Denim

Straight Outta’ Sweden

These dudes look batshit crazy but their denim looks great. All the way from Sweden. This is worth a look, I promise (via Cool Hunting).

General Quarters

Los Angeles

Mr. Williams at A Continuous Lean did a nice profile on General Quarters, a slick shop in Los Angeles. I tried to do a writeup on these guys while I was out there this past summer but they’re very busy and very difficult to get in touch with. Nice photos and it looks like the selection at the shop has bloomed quite nicely (via A Continuous Lean).

Years

The Wooden Record Player

I don’t remember where I saw this so I apologize for not giving credit where credit is due. This is a video of a record player that plays rings of wood and translates it to music. My hunch is that it takes a special plate of wood to do this but it’s awesome and incredibly haunting. Check it out.

Disneyland 1957

Vintage Video from Just After Opening

This is seriously worth a look. Awesome vintage video of the park right after it opened (via Devour).

Cool video on Prime Burger, a very vintage diner-esque joint in NYC (via Devour).
